Probiotics and prebiotics - gut health magic!

Gut health is so crucial, maybe even more than we realise. Around 70% of our immune system is in the gut, so having a healthy gut biome ensures that the nutrients from the food we eat actually get absorbed and delivered to our cells. A lot of the everyday foods we consume—like processed foods, sugar, alcohol, and caffeine—can mess with the delicate balance of gut bacteria. To get the most out of the food we eat and keep our immune systems strong, it’s all about nurturing the gut with prebiotic and probiotic foods.

What is a prebiotic?

Prebiotics serve as food for the bacteria in our gut. they encourage growth of beneficial bacteria and support digestion.

Bananas, asparagus, garlic, onions, leeks, oats, and legumes.

What is a probiotic?

Probiotics are live beneficial bacteria or yeasts that help balance the gut microbiome. They increase the number of good bacteria in the gut.

Yogurt, kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut, miso, and kombucha.

How They Work Together

Probiotics and prebiotics often work together in what's called a synbiotic relationship:

Prebiotics help the probiotics thrive, and probiotics help utilize and ferment the prebiotics, creating a balanced ecosystem in your gut!
